you mean the bulleted list to a text? in illustrator?
You can find the code to display the symbol that you Paice (CTRL + SOMETHING), maybe look into the character map windows .. but there is no way that I know of in illustrator (I still use CS3), or drawing points, or introduce the symbols that you want taken from other characters ..
maybe I'm wrong .. (I would try to copy and paste from word at this point ..)

Its funny that you asked this because Ive been wondering the same thing for awhile and unfortunately I still dont think theres a way to make a bulleted list (besides drawing circles or adding typographic bullets (alt + 8)) if I find a way I will be sure to share.

AFAIK only Adobe InDesign has this "insert special character" feature, on illustrator you can do that manually but the question is on mac or pc?
on mac:
hold option + 8
on pc:
alt + 0149 (on the numeric keypad, the bottom right of your keyboard not the numeric key above letters)

If I am looking for like a bullet point or like the TM letters I just Open the Glyphs for that font style. I know on illustrator CS5 & CS6 you just go to: " Type / Glyphs " and it will have all the special characters just for that font style. Hope this helps.

Squewheet has it right. Open the GLYPH pulldown menu under the text header. Double click on the desired character and it will appear with the text curser. No memorizing codes. All the high bit characters in a font are easily accessed. This is a great way to select alternate bullet shapes from dingbat fonts. The bullets can be aligned in the text box by using tabs and indents found under Window/text pulldown menu. If you are drawing ordinary text bullets, you are working WAY too hard. Hope this helps...

The GLYPH menu also allows you to select alternate characters in the humongous OpenType fonts with huge character sets.
In the Jurasic era with only PS fonts, we looked up the ASCI numbers and used the ALT+XXX method as described above. The codes were in tables in the back of printed program manuals. MAC and PCs had different character sets when it came to this. You often saw the Yen symbol (Â¥) in place of bullets due to system conflicts.

If the question is there automatic bullets or numbering lists like word-processing and presentation software? Sorry, no. You should probably be using Indesign, and bring your Illustrator graphics into text heavy pages. Creative Suite integration is stronger than ever.
