I would like us all to brainstorm the idea. I have received an offer from www.hostingplex.com to organize a free hosting for DC design team members. I have a domain name graphics.fr which can be used for this purpose - we could set the portfolios at e.g. http://resurepus.graphics.fr http://jlinds72.graphics.fr etc

We may launch a community contest for the layout of the portfolios.

This is the idea in general, please, let us know what you think about it and how do you think we could improve it.

So would everyone have their own subdomain or would you all just like make a new folder on a collective one?

I think it's an excellent idea, the only thing I'm not sure about is the domain name, its a great domain name, but I've read through tons of articles that global domain names are always 100 times more popular with people browsing the web, ie .com .net .org .. I thought perhaps dcdesignteam.net would be a little more professional, as it's in relation to designcontest.com. Domain names are only 8.95 a year, so it wouldnt be a huge expenditure.

JakSmit, yes, all the designers will have subdomains of their own.

Ilumina, you are right. I am registering a .net domain name for this project.

yeah, I thought it was a good idea too, but I expected a little more responce from our members... Now I believe it was not such a good idea after all.

I still think its a great idea!
I'm getting sick of seeing broken images when going through old contests looking at the awesome entries - imageshack, etc. all the other free ones have the images deleted/broken.

Certainly not cool for archiving. :(

i agree with fac3less that the broken image links are really frustrating--i like looking at old contests! should you decide to offer free portfolio hosting here, i'd recommend making it a requirement for design team members to at least host their contest-linked images on their dcdesigner.net subdomain. as a domain owner myself, i realize some people may find this a little frustrating ("if i already have a domain, why do i have to use yours?"), but i don't think it would be of a hassle that they would refuse to do it.

also, keep in mind that lack of response so far doesn't necessarily mean lack of interest; this particular part of the forum doesn't seem to be used very often, so people may forget to look here! :)
