you don't have to be good in "using" the program to be good in "designing". so don't worry too much about all that expert/advanced tutorials.
if you really feel Graphic-Design is your path, just try on basic level.
for example on logo design: just take a pencil and start sketching an idea from your mind or something you saw.. then take a photo to your sketch and place the photo in illustrator. start making your idea into vector. then change colors, use some effects..etc.
this basic training might sound boring but believe me it's better than watching a lot of tutorials without actual trying.
good luck

Jonmaxxx,
To answer your photoshop question, you don't have to download anything, if you would like to load the pantone palette you can go to the swatches window, then to the dropdown menu in the upper right corner, you can arrow down to the palette, you wish to see. Hope that helps!
Also, as far as tutorials go, I think smashingmagazine.com has a lot of useful design tutorials, and other design tips, tricks, and freebies.
Good Luck!

Read or check videos and start following the exact working and later try it yourself... You need to practice more and more.... Thats the only key to sucess

I would highly recommend doing a short basic course in graphic design. It helps in building a strong foundation of a good designer. Reading and learning of the internet helps but a 1on1 will help you grow more.

Using programs has nothing to do with being a designer. You can master Photoshop, Illustrator, etc over 20 years and still have not a single clue about what good design is. It's like saying that knowing how to ride a bike makes you an environmentalist scientist.

You can learn the programs in a short amount of time, but you will need to go to college to learn what good design is. And even with that, you will have to study the world around you to really learn. It takes years, not hours.

Do not use Pantone colors unless you or your client is using a specialized Pantone printer. It's the same as if you were to use RGB colors for printing using a CMYK printer... your colors would look entirely different once printed.

Illustrator has a ton of color presets and themes. You can also search for various websites that will help with color, such as:
Color Scheme Designer 3

Remember you are never limited by palettes. You can always choose from over 16 million colors using the color picker. You should never have the program of not having enough colors.
