Design
The Nexus 7 is 4.72 inches wide in portrait, while the Kindle Fire HD is 5.4-inch wide. This makes the Nexus 7 easier to hold with one hand. It is also lighter at 11.99 oz whereas the Kindle Fire HD is 13.9oz.

Display:
They are both very similar in display however the Kindle Fire HD has warmer color production and richer tones.
Viewing angle is left in Kindle Fire HD and right on the Google Nexus 7

Functionality and interface:

The Nexus 7 uses the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features Google apps. However, the Kindle Fire HD has Android 4.0, and lacks the Google apps.
Kindle Fire HD, blends in with Amazon’s services, but it lacks the amount of personalization, and comprehensive features of the Google Nexus 7.

Processor and Memory:
Nexus 7has a 1.2GHz quad core /NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and the Kindle Fire has a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP4460 CPU, they both perform alike with the same tasks. Kindle Fire HD packs 16GB of memory whereas the Nexus 7 has 8GB of storage and you’d have to pay more for the 16GB

Connectivity:
Both support all the usual connection features such as GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Nexus 7 also has NFC.

Camera:
Both have front-facing camera, and both are similar

Battery:
You get a day’s usage from a full battery charge
