Creating Harmonious Color Schemes

What is the best way to ensure my color scheme is harmonious as I create new color swatches?

I personally try to use: colors of the same color range or complementary colors. To create a new color you have to click the icon that I've marked with a red arrow and you will see the panel that you can see below where you can create your own colour!!. Regards!

There is a handy little tool online called Color Scheme Designer. You can plug in a color and it gives complimentary, supplementary and other color combinations.
