Here is usually what I do to further protect myself from being ripped off. I know it sounds drasctic but f you have a logo that you think is just off the hook and a great idea do this. Print it out (before posting it), mail it to yourself, when you receive it back REAL IMPORTANT-- DO NOT OPEN IT. Leave it sealed and file it away. What this does is protect its creation. The Federal Post Office Seal acts as a show of who created first therefore has artisitic license. So if you are thumbing through a magazine one day and you see your logo, you have some protection and grounds to sue. Because you have that envelope still sealed. Now if they have a copyright before your post marked dated then you lose. But if your post mark date is before their date of copyright or they have nothing to prove when it was created then you win. Now keep in mind it is always better to get a copyright but if you just want simple protection this is the way to go. And I do it all the time. I have many un opened envelopes here. Also not sure how these laws standup in other countries but this is for the USA.
