The WWW(World Wide Web) is mostly a collection of different documents that stored individually on different servers spread all over the world, however linked to each other via standard protocols.HTML ( HyperText Markup Language) is the standard way of information formatting on the Web. It evolved from a text-only markup system in the early nineties where it was used as a tool for Web designers for adding user interaction, audio, video, graphics content to web pages. XMHTL (EXtensible HyperText Markup Language) is an evolution of HTML designed that makes web content easier to find, retrieve and analyze. XHTML is more recent but it’t completely different than HTML. The XHTML standard emphasizes that any document produced with it should follow its rules. The WWW requires both HTML and XHTML documents in order to have Document Type Declaration as first line of code. The "doctype" declaration gives the web browser information needed on how to display the data on pages.

HTML or HyperText Markup Language is the main markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.

XHTML (Extensible HyperText Markup Language) is a family of XML markup languages that mirror or extend versions of the widely used Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the language in which web pages are written.

HTML and XHTML are both languages in which webpages are written.

  • HTML is SGML-based while XHTML is XML-based.
  • XHTML stands for EXtensible HyperText Markup Language
  • XHTML is almost identical to HTML
  • XHTML is stricter than HTML
  • XHTML is HTML defined as an XML application
  • XHTML is supported by all major browsers
