Opening works from newer Illustrator

I have Illustrator CS2. Many times when I down load work done in newer Illustrator they won't open....

I have Illustrator CS2. Many times when I down load work done in newer Illustrator they won't open. Anyone out there know how to get around this or what needs to be done?

If you are trying to open an .eps file, re-name the file extension to .ai or .pdf
If you have InDesign, open up the downloaded file and save it as a pdf, then open it in Illustrator

Hope either of those methods work.
