You should obtain better quality results if you export directly from Illustrator, than if you save it twice (illustrator+photoshop).
Quick HOW TO EXPORT tutorial :
1. Create a rectangle (any color/properties) and place it anywhere on your artwork.
2. "Object -> Crop Area (near the bottom) -> Make". It will add crop marks
3. "File -> Export..." Choose JPG in the dropmenu, enter your filename, click OK
4. Choose these options :
(see capture below)
5. OK
It's that easy.

You have a grate passion for your drawings, and everything which is done so passionately attracts attention. I don’t think you should worry too much about the originality, your robots are different in a way and in time they are going to be even more distinctive. You just have to keep drawing and I am looking forward too see more of it in the future, perhaps some comic book.

you get the best results by opening illustrator files in photoshop or copy paste from AI to PS (chose paste as pixels, then double click in your doc to import your drawing
you can then resize your drawing (never grow up the size, only reduce it)
The export module in ai is a bit less efficent than the PS open module.
I do it that way and never have quality pb !
