Yes Fireworks still exists lol and lots of people still use it and wish Adobe continued to develop it

I love Fireworks too, many years I have used only Fireworks for any kind of design, especially for web. And now, I use Photoshop, because all the clients ask for this, but I know that you can save PSD from Fireworks and Photoshop will open that file (not the texture, but it's awesome, anyhow )

I used it in the past for a while to create animated GIFs. It's handy for that. Few weeks ago I thought of getting the last portable one to make one, then I told myself .. grow up! BTW: I made the frames in Photoshop!
