Hi guys!
Anyone know what kind of effect this is?
It's from Alberto Seveso - Alberto Seveso, official Web Page | Alberto Seveso

I really like this image and want to know how to do this.
I am aware this might be a long session in PS, but maybe you guys know.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing :) Seveso makes some really nice imagery

There doesn't seem to be a good tutorial on how to make an image exactly like the one in the link, but I have a good idea how it was made. He cut out pieces from a photo (most likely with the pen tool), and then probably used the liquify/smudge tool for the distortions. The "smoky" part is a high-speed photo of coloured inks in water. And then he uses different blending modes to combine everything together. Sorry I can't be more specific but these types of compositions are usually done with a lot of experimentation. I don't even think Seveso knew what he was doing when he made this ;)

Try some of the techniques I mentioned (cutting with pen tool, liquify/smudge tools, blending modes) and see if you can come up with your own unique style

Im not too sure this is done in Photoshop, I think it may be a double exposure camera.

In interviews Seveso says he uses Photoshop and Illustrator to make these photo composites, which is even more impressive because like you mentioned, a similar effect can be accomplished with double exposure photography.

Here's an interesting video of Seveso creating another photo (it's in Italian) :

Thanks for the feedback, even though i basically knew that was photoshop in the first place, I was more wondering what to do in Photoshop.
After just analyzing the picture a bit more, I can see that this is exactly what Happy said - Or, at least almost. This is just a ink/smoke stock image with a face behind it, with blending modes to make it pop. Just a lot of trial and error in Photoshop though. Don't think it's so hard as I immediately thought when I saw it. Might try if i get the time!

A less destructive way would be to use image masks rather than using the pen tool so it can be tweaked as you go if you change your mind. :) But I think you have it with everything else.

This art is contained with 2 images.

1. Portrait of Girl
2. colored drop in water then captured it with DSLR camera with high shutter speed.

Designer has played with these two images very well in Photoshop.

Even I can do in just half an hour. :)

Manipulate with layers, croped the parts with lasso, blur tool manipulation to blur the parts, some of filter styles, croped the hair, again blur tool. You can use the options in colors and Layer options- Multiply, Normal etc.

I would do this effect in Illustrator. Create a square, lay lines across the square and select everything and choose "Pathfinder-divide" then "ungroup". Select all pieces and apply a two tone gradient to it. It is simple shapes with gradients. Good luck!
