I am curious ...do designers say they hate comic sans because they are ridiculed for using it? Comic sans has a place just as any other font
Trying to get some good font chatter going : )

I have a question.... Why does everyone hate comic sans sooooo much?

I think it's mostly because since it was a default system font on Windows computers, it became really popular. And people began using it inappropriately e.g. formal announcements. So now there is a negative connotation associated with using it, even though you're right Sharie, it does have its place

Comic sans lives at the bottom end of the current aesthetic scale. It has its uses, but not by "artists" unless used with irony. The origins and early usage are very humble. Overuse and miss use have led to the current state of being reviled.
ITC Souvenir has suffered a similar fate. It was wildly popular in the 1960s and 1970s. Now it is persona non grata on the type menu.
About typesetting, one famous writer once said: "Friends don't let friends set Souvenir."
Stories like this are proof that people do have a visceral response to type. (at least people who work with it)

I don't hate it, I love it since I was child, but when I found another-but-better font.....
I'll use the another-but-better.
