I am new member of the DC community and I wanted to inquire further about a DC concept: Guaranteed vs. Non-Guaranteed Contest.
I presume clients would create a contest if he or she is truly interested in investing in a design. Why does the guaranteed vs non-guaranteed option exist for contest? How does this work, are clients committed to said dollar amount when a contest is posted?
I only enquire because I have a 9-5 occupation and graphic design is a skill I would like to develop further; therefore, this is done during non-working hours. I found DC to be a great community to learn from experience designers, build my skill, and understand the designer-client relationship. However, I find it troublesome to submit to non-guaranteed contest, not simply due to guaranteed payout, but to invest time into a design where client communication is not guaranteed.
Do non-guaranteed contest have less thread communication with the clients? Are these contest generally not graded? Are winning designs always chosen? Do clients have to commit to payout when opening a contest?
I hope I am not reiterating a previous forum, but these are questions I truly have. Time is valued and I want my investment in this process to be worth-while to the development of my skill as a graphic designer.
