Surely this contest can't be genuine.... 1, 2 and 3rd are pictures a dime a dozen in any stock photo website:

1st

is a popular logo in many a golf club (with slight adjustments) e.g
Arcadia Bluffs golf course Logo Design...
Google 'hills logo' and click on images to see more strikiing similarities,
or even shutterstock.

Does client know these are other co. or people's logo's (or very similar to many)...?

Thats only form are similar. Winner logotype are so different.

I completely agree
work is very different
creative works and copyright - is not easy.
You understand that the music notes only 7 but of an infinite number of combinations create new masterpieces
