Contests ending before deadline?

I might be mistaken  but I think  that some contests are ending before the stated deadline.  I asked a question last night on a contest that I thought had two days left.  The question was answered and I began  some work on it,  and then went to sleep.  I wake up  this morning and the contest is closed with  winners selected. Is this common practice? What  gives?

While I was submitting one of my design,  but it didn't show up in the list, then I was non stop refreshing the design entry page, suddenly the contest is finalized. I don't understand why it ended well before due day. Early the contest page showed "1d 15h left".

Unfortunately the client can choose a winner at anytime. COntests can close  several ways by the client. Contest can go expired then client choose a winner or client can choose winner while contest is still running. I always tell the the client if you are going to choose winner early then please let the designers know, simply write a comment on comment page that you will be choosing a winner soon so the designers can stop working on ideas for your contest.

Some will do as I have suggested while others do not think they need to.

Thanks Sharie, it would be nice to  know that they already  had a winner in mind,  especially since I had just  asked a question(and had it answered), within 8 hours of the contest being closed. You live you learn....
