"The finished files need to have the text editable in case we need to change wording."

It's my understanding that  all  type should be expanded. Is that  for logo  only? How should font licensing be approached here? Obviously I can't just  hand them my license, and using something like Futura or Helvetica could easily lead to problems. In fact Illustrator won't allow me to  embed either of those due to licensing restrictions.

Should I just  stick  to public domain fonts?

Take a look at google fonts

Source Sans, Oswald, Open sans, and Roboto may be what your looking for.

Montserrat has become a standard.

These are open source, free for commercial and private use, fonts.

Google originally gave these away for web use.

They solve the font license problem for the internet, and now, everything else.

Anyone can download or link to these fonts.

This dynamic library would have cost a fortune a few years ago.

The only problem I see is that they have very open letter spacing suited for web use.

You may want to track the for print.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks,  I'm aware of Google fonts, I wasn't aware they  were expanded for commercial usage however.  I think I'm going to pass on this one though,  he's asking for nine labels to  be designed for $379,  and that  just  seems like a bad deal IMHO,  even if three are the same. When he was asking for 6 labels,  with  three the same that  sounded a bit better.  He'll likely get someone to  do it though, and I might rethink that if I get  some free time this weekend, who knows...
