mostly pills patient doctors healthy ect ect. Best to find positive side using a brainstorm. Rest is google data searching to compare to get what most got and make new idea using the words you searched with the brainstorm.

Think of what exactly the company is trying to convey, are they competing with Walgreen's, CV Pharmacy or any other chain?

I agree pills are a great place to start maybe using the RX symbol, but becareful with that, it may detract if not done tastefully or thoughtfully. It is an icon to compliment the piece not the standing point of the Design, but then again it could be if done well!

One of the first things I do when starting a new project is look at what has worked for other companies. For a lot of companies pharmaceutical, I've noticed they tend to go with something not so representational as a pill or a cross (Actual Pharmacies tend to go with more representational logos, I think). They almost want to be sort of ambiguous as to what their company actually goes. Examples of Pfizer, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer, etc.

Try to find out what is their main area of concentration/ area of expertise?
What are there future plans/ directions?
with all these keywords /images together...start exploring designs

I have a question regarding "research"
I know that google is a good way to start but what other things can I do when starting a logo design?
do you recommend logo books (those who have 1000s of logos)?

I would avoid logo books, until after I have made my first drafts (to ensure that coincidentally my logo does not have a lot in common with others), but that kind of research may unconsciously thwart your own originality.

i sugest you reserch more on the company or preson, you are creating a logo for ,because you want to creat something different and unique rather then something that has allready been done before
