I currently have two of them...
One 500Gig, And One 250 Gig...
Maxtor, And Western Digital (My Book)
Both very reliable In my expereience.
Ive had em for over a good year now, and never crashed or anything.
Dropped em a few times, and still worked with no errors or any problems.
I Had A SimpleTech Pininfarina, but that one broke alot faster then i could do anything with it, i sent it back to the store.
i Suggest getting one when u see them on sale or somthing.
They come in handy esspecially if ur holding Programs, Movies, Work Files, GFX Files, Photo's, Etc.
External Hardrives? Anyone?

mines 250 gigs. your right they are great. i like it because i can save all my music and pictures and whatnot on it and not have it all clogging up my computer. also, i have a pc and they are somewhat unreliable so i am a firm believer in backing up all of your work.

I find small external you can carry around is much easier. Plus I got 2 laptops and want to switch the files in between without having to email them back and fort. I go for western digital which out of most of the external have a decent looking design.

Anyone know if there are external hardrive or servers that can be set wireless. Would be easy for myself. So I wont have to carry it from one laptop to the other. Just Wifi on and network.
Cause lately also looking at wireless printers and would easier without having any wires attached to my laptop each time. And could work easily with just my laptop and dont have too plug in each time to acces them.

I am going to get a new router/modem soon which is wireless... it has a usb-port for external harddrives to be shared in the network. I can't say how it works but it sounds like a neat future. D-Link 635 I think it's name...

I've been pining to purchase a G-Drive for awhile... but it's a bit more expensive than your regular Western Digital... la sighs... G-Drive's are known for their quietness and stability :]

I had a Maxtor and I was saddened to realize about 2 weeks ago that it stopped working. Before then, it was stored away in a box in my closet for about 3 months. Just stopped working out of nowhere, unrepairable and unformatable. Made me cry a little inside. I back everything up on DVDs twice because everything else is still not reliable enough for me.
I also had a zip drive in college and those darn expensive little disks always got messed up. If you breathe on them they're damaged, (well, not literally, but they were too delicate) so that didn't work out either.

A 120G Toshiba portable ext hard drive... planning to purchase another one but the current isn't full yet just want to segregate my photos. I'm eyeing for a dslr.
