R - recherche

Been a while since I've posted here, so.....I've been working on this R and found a name that...

Been a while since I've posted here, so.....

I've been working on this R and found a name that works well with it (to me at least).
I drew the R while I was flying to NM and thought it was unique looking and tryed to develope it into a brand or wil use it when ever the opportunity comes up.

So don't hold back let me know what you think - good bad or indifferent.

I like the gothic feel of the font. Maybe you could add another pilar so as to distinguish it as an "R", at certain angles it looks like a "P".

I was thinking at that angle it looks like a "P" also. I love the design though. What would a styled like curve look like flowing down from the top of the R

Looking at it by itself & without any added font under it I would conclude the following:

The good
1.) Looks genuinely original
2.) Playful, yet has an elegant feel to it
3.) Abstract, yet noticeably an "R" (At it's current angle)
4.) Clean, yet has personality

The bad
1.) At a different angle it can be confused with a "P" (as mentioned by another member)
2.) Limited to very niche market type companies

Niche markets that come to mind
1.) Goth / Vampirical
2.) Medieval / Renaissance
3.) Hair salon
4.) Clothing line
5.) Hotel chain
6.) Photographer / designer
7.) Restaurant

Footnotes:
Overall I really like the design as a whole & think that it would be a great original brand / trademark for a company.

scorpionagency: For a niche market logo, thats a lot of options =). 5 star Hotels and Wellness are the first things that comes to mind when I see the logo.

Also I would like to see the Logo type "R" replace the text blow the Logo and see how it looks. That could be another option in designing the "R" to see how it fits.

Thank you all for the comments and feedback.
Some people see the R right off, but most see a P (means i've failed LOL). I've tried a few options on making the r more distictive but it took away from the overall look of it. I'll have to give it another go and see what I can do to better it. perhaps I've tried to force a vertical piece for the left pilar, I just need to let it flow..

Greetings,

I definitely love fine typography and you may be onto something cool here.

However, the rounded shape on the top left of the letter makes this look like the letter "P" instead of an "R" . If you worked to square off the top left elements of your design it would soon become an "R"....

Think 180Âº for the top left and keep up the creative work! :-)

I'll work on finding or making a type that works better.
I thought I had a good name:(

but I can try and come up with something new as well. There are quite a few R words.

RECHERCHE - pernounced - ruh-shair-shey; ruh-sher-shey
1. sought out with care.
2. very rare, exotic, or choice; arcane; obscure.
3. of studied refinement or elegance; precious; affected; pretentious.

I think that if you put the pilar it will be just another curly R, it's great as it is now, buj you have to refine the round part because is giving a wrong P perspective.

Try to use a R that you really like an us it a a model to refine the curve.

You have an strong symbol I wouldn't use dose typo for the name, it's just to much you have to compensate there.

I like this newer one a little better coy. Still think the first one was good. however, this new ones arch on the arm of the "R" makes it difficult for anyone to mistake it for a P anymore

Hmm...I like the original R better, but think it could use a subtle vertical line to distinguish it from a P. The newest design looks a little too heavy and doesn't fit the word "recherche" as much (at least in my opinion).

Very creative, I'm looking forward to seeing the final design!

- my point of view ...... the first logo

- it looks much more streamlined kinda-sorta , i mean the lines are thinner!

- both looks good, but i like the first logo more!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I also think the first one is the better of the two.
After looking at it the second looks almost forced.? as compaired to the first it doesn move togeather more fluidly.

I'm still playing with it.
