New Portfolio - Layout Opinion

I haven't visited DC for a while I hope you're all doing great

Completely left this far too long, but in the process of getting together the portfolio site for the studio we have been trying to build for the last year. We've pretty much been working off a holding page, although I know alot of you will sympathise on how annoyingly difficult it is to brand yourself.

Anyway to the point, I'd like to invite opinions on how this layout should be implemented. Initially I was thinking it can lend itself to any resolution across the board, but im not liking the results. If we look at it on, say 1024768, 12801024/800, its doable, but anything beyond that I feel looks empty.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going for something different and I have no problem leaving white space, maybe I've just been looking at it too long. The colours, typography and content are very rough of course, I'm looking for opinions on how the layout should be approached. I've been toying with the idea of centering the whole thing, but its not what I planned.

I actually really like your current layout, but I see what you mean about viewing it in a very large browser window, it leaves too much space between the "We Are Cupcake" title and the main text on the right. The problem with this isn't so much the negative space, but rather that the main content is pushed too far right to be read comfortably in a large browser window.

You might consider setting the "We Are Cupcake" title as the background image of your "wrapper" or "main content" div and keep it positioned to the left of the page but centered to the div it is contained in, also give that div a fixed width. That way when somebody increases the browser window beyond a certain size (beyond the width of the div) it will keep both the "We Are Cupcake" and the main content centered inside the window. I don't know if you see what I mean, but to me that should work.

Great work anyways and excellent use of jquery scrollTo.

I agree with a lot of the points that rapanui brought up. I think a fixed width would solve a lot of problems with different screen/resolution sizes. I'm not an expert on web design, though, so hopefully some more experienced web designers will have some more advanced input.

In general, I really like the scrolling effect, the big bold text, and the way you tie everything back to the cupcake theme with the various phrases (half baked, recipes, etc).

Looking forward to seeing what the final product will look like!
