Project description

Design an illustration for a 4-piece dinnerware set that will include a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, and mug. The design for each piece can be slightly different but should remain cohesive as a set.

The theme of this design is scattered wildflowers.

The aim of this dinnerware set is to be elegant and versatile. Someone could use this set for special meals or any occasion they want to bring a special element to.

Simplicity is key. The design of the flowers should be simple, with a stem, and individual, as if the flowers were scattered by the wind or have fallen down.  They shouldn't be bunched tightly together, but rather single flowers with some overlapping.  The blossoms themselves should not have a lot of detail, but rather the color and shape will make each flower distinct.  At least 3-5 colors is ideal, so that the design will have a bit of color when it's printed on white ceramic.

An example canvas will be uploaded to show a rectangle at top meant for the mug design, two circles for the plates, and a smaller rectangle which will be the outside (or inside) rim of the bowl.

  • About #5, @operhal
Yes, version #5 is the one. Can you make sure that the design will wrap all around the mug and bowl? In the comp it looks like it may only be on the side showing, but we'd want the design to wrap all the way around.

This is so close - the salad plate now captures the movement like the dinner plate but the design is too similar. The bigger sized flowers were causing issues with capturing motion and finding the right placement on the salad plate, but they also helped distinguish the design from the bigger plate. The two plates now feel the same and miss the distinction.

I don't know if adding a bigger flower in will solve for this or perhaps changing out some of the colors of the flowers on the salad plate from the dinner plate. right now all the flower types and colors match on each plate, so differentiating them with color or adding a few new shapes to the salad plate would perhaps help achieve a distinction.

      Thanks for your update.

Thanks for your submission. The flowers are a bit too heavy - we are looking for a delicate, wispy kind of feel. The colors you chose are nice and complementary, but the design of the flowers is not quite there.

Thanks for your submission but this is not what we are looking for. We want a colorful, whimsical flower design that is simple. This is a bit too heavy and serious and has a frosted look to it that was not in the brief.

Colors and flowers are perfect, especially on the dinner plate.
The salad plate placement of the flowers isn't quite there. The movement of the flowers on the dinner plate is perfect, as if the wind is blowing and the flowers are being blown across the plate. The salad plate lacks this feeling of movement. My suggestions would be reducing the size of the current flowers by 30% and perhaps adding some smaller flower buds or petals to help capture the feeling of movement across the plate.

Thank you, your design is beautiful.

  • Hi, thank you for your submission. These flowers are really lovely but not quite in the style we are looking for. Overall they are a bit too large and the placement is a bit random on the plate. We're really looking for more of a scattered flower look, as if a bunch of flowers and some of their petals have been blown by the wind. #3

    • Hi, we actually prefer your first version to this lavender one. I think the issue with the first version is the yellow flowers are too large and it would be better to have more colors incorporated but not too heavy on any one color. For example adding flowers that are indigo, lavender, burnt orange, yellow, and green...like the example of the rectangle plate which was uploaded. This lavender version is too mono-chromatic. The vivid colors on the other version are what makes it nice. The yellow is especially nice in contrast to the other colors, it's just that two large yellow flowers on the smaller plate is a bit too much. Hope this feedback helps, I really like your design.

  • Thanks for your design. The yellow flowers on the salad plate are too large - can you reduce the size by at least 50% and also don't feature yellow so prominently. Another color such as lavender or indigo blue would be preferred. #1
