Afyamoto

Was impressed by his methodical approach to design as he was zoning in on the winning idea. Great work ethic and creativity. Big ups!

Project description

We’re starting an e-commerce store for Africa-made fashion and face masks, to support talented local tailors in Tanzania, who have lost their income due to corona.

Everything that we sell is hand-sown and made from 100% locally sourced Kitenge, which is the famously colorful fabric, that you see everywhere in in East Africa. Most people don’t know, that tailor-made fashion is actually a staple of the local economy and is highly sought-after in the entire Lake Victoria region.

We believe that Tanzania has the stuff to become a household name in the global fashion world, despite the fact that it’s still a very poor region.

Our goal is to employ 1000 Tanzanian tailors by the end of 2021 and pay them at least 100% above the average pay grade, but also investing in further training and quality improvements.

Our plan for this project is, rather than making it a run-of-the-mill charity campaign, to create a glamorous brand, that gives our African co-owners pride of ownership. We want to be a beacon of hope for those young Tanzanians that think that their fate is sealed and we to show the world, that everyone has something to gain by investing in Africas bright future.

For starters, we need someone to step up and make a beautiful logo, that represents both the rich heritage of the country, as well as the elegance of the runway fashion industry. Think of a brand that really like wearing and then imagine what it’s logo would look like.

Bonus points if you can pick out some colors and fonts for the corporate design as well. Either way, If we like your vision, we’ll likely contact you again afterwards for future collaborations.

Ok, enough said. I’m excited to see what you have in mind.

-- just fyi --

For context, we attached our old logo, that we used for another project back in college. If you'd like to take inspiration from it, that's fine, but you're free to go your own way.

The name Afyamoto has a meaning in the Swahili language - something along the lines of "fire" and "health". Again, going back to our old college project where we developed a prototype for a sustainable cook stove that prevented indoor air pollution and could be 100% locally sourced.
We've grown kind of attached to that name by now, so we'd appreciate it if you could use it for your logo design as well.

That's really about it, see ya ;)
