Buckeye Lake Carp Cook-off logo

I'm pleased with the designs I received and found our winner very cooperative. However, I believe a list of Frequently Asked Questions and a better search function in the help area would be very helpful and cut down on the need to go to Live Chat to get questions answered.

Winning design #13 by josephope, Logo Design for Buckeye Lake Carp Cook-off logo Contest
Gold Medal

designed by josephope

Project description

Our non-profit group is hosting a carp cook-off contest as part of a carp fishing tournament to remove excessive numbers of carp from our lake. We will do a one-to-one with the winning designer to design a logo for the carp tournament. Though our goal to reduce the number of carp in the lake is serious, we are looking for humorous/cartoon-like logos. Our goal with the cook-off contest is to attract attention to the fishing tournament and encourage more people to consider carp as a food source. As a rather ugly, bottom-feeding fish, most people in the US don't eat carp nor would even consider eating them. A carp cook-off contest is very unusual. Carp are good fighters when hooked. We expect most cook-off contestants will use a grill in their preparation. We expect both events to become annual ones, but don't want to date the logos. Please use the words "Buckeye Lake Carp Cook-off" somewhere in the logo.

  • In my design I tried to include the fishing and grilling part into one cartoonish, effective design.
  • Hello, In this submission the tail-end of the carp has no overlay of scales. In the submission before it, there are scales on the tail. Please let me know of any changes in regards to color, spacing or style you would like me to make. All suggestions are welcome! Thank you for your consideration. -keyrun
  • Hello, I decided to go with a grill as part of the design to highlight the cook-off. I gave the slant to the grill so it resembled the "NO" symbol so it also has the message that carp are unwanted. I choose those colors to resemble cooked fish. I also have a frying pan drawn somewhere that I could use but I thought the grill was nice with the added effect of the no symbol. Let me know your thoughts. By the way, I think this would make a great t-shirt design. Regards, Design Astronaut

  • I am from Ohio too! I'm sad to hear that one of our lakes has been overrun with pesky, but surprisingly delicious, carp. Since you said that carp are real "fighters" I drew them as such, and since you said that most participants were going to use a grill, I made that their battleground. Both fish are custom illustrations created by me specifically for this design. No clip-art! If there are any changes you would like to see, please let me know. -KG
  • Ok sir i'll do it in 5 mins.
  • Logo needs to include the words "Buckeye Lake Carp Cook-off" in some manner. Logo should also somehow indicate cooking.
  • Need to include Buckeye Lake Carp Cook-off; nothing indicates cooking
  • Dear Sir, I was unable to write anything as you have forgotten to mention the company's name or exact words you want in the logo. I will make changes as soon as I get instructions from you. Regards, Jaishil
  • You can NOT steal another designers design!..You took an entry and submitted it as your entry. You are now banned from designcontest.com
  • Dear CH, I try to make the cartoon carp lying on the grill fire as if enjoying cooking itself. :D Any comment is welcome. THX
  • About #20 In my design, I put filet of carp cooking on a grill, but left the fins and face behind as well so it is clear that is it a fish rather than steak or something. I used a font that looked fun, playful, and even a little beach-y in my opinion.

  • In my design, i used image of the carp is stylized to become a cook with a typical hat of cooking. This carp have 2 hands and it can hold something. I will come back with new concepts.
  • CH - #52 is the my first submitted design for this contest. I went for a cartoon type look, that was still appetizing. I wanted to include the fishing aspect still, hence the fishing pole. The colors of the carp might be confusing, I can change these to an orange if you'd like. I just thought that most of the "orange" designs looked a lot like goldfish. If there are any changes you would like to see, font, font color, fish color, any movement, aspect changes, etc. I would be more than happy to do that for you. Looking forward to your feedback. -SmoothFX
  • My concept, design, illustration and hand lettered script are original. Any similarity to competing designs is purely coincidental. The overall design was created to show the cook-off in a positive and appealing way. The whole image was made to be easy to recognize and easy to print. Keeping the cost of printing in mind, I limited the colors to just two. It can easily be made one color or four if the customer so desires. The light golden brown color was chosen to give more of a food and appetite appeal. Besides "Yum!" some other things the fish might say are "What's cookin'?", "Bite me!" or "Good eatin'!". Al Sliuzas
