Who we are and what we do!
Connecting Cultures offers a hospitality scheme for and amongst international students in Austria. We are a non-profit / charity organisation, who wants international students feel welcome in the foreign culture as we walk alongside them during their studies in Austria.
While they are studying in Austria international students often struggle with understanding the culture and customs, with making friends, dealing with everyday life, and with their studies. They face the difficulty of functioning in a foreign language and both their studies and everyday life can be significantly affected. They are often mentally and emotionally in need. These needs are caused by a culture shock, by a lack of support, by a sense of loneliness, by facing various overwhelming situations, etc.
We get the opportunity to meet these students where they are and walk alongside them for a season that will probably shape their futures in significant ways.
The activities for the international students include (but are not limited to) the following: welcome programmes to meet students as they arrive in Austria, international cafés, outings to visit various parts of Austria, social events, special meals, hospitality schemes, counselling, opportunities to practise German conversation, help with Austrian culture, educational seminars on topics relevant to students (management of time and finances, relationships, identity, search for the meaning of life etc.), discussion groups, movie or creative nights, orientation in the city and other social events, ...
Connecting Cultures wants to be a catalyst to raise awareness about the importance of international student integration in the local society and that more people would realise how they can contribute to achieving this integration. Another goal is to eliminate discrimination among youth and to promote mutual acceptance.
Whom we want to reach with the logo!
We want to reach Austrian volunteers who are willing to share their lives with the international students. These volunteers are of all ages and backgrounds as international students are looking for friends, for mentors, for a family abroad as well as for (grand)parent figures i.e. for people who care for them.
Further we want to reach churches (their leadership and members) as most of them do have a welcoming attitude already.
Further we want to build a network with other student organisations and universities; i.e. we want to reach the international departments of the universities in Austria.
Finally we want to reach sponsors who are willing to support this organisation financially.
The logo will NOT really matter to the international students themselves but it needs to communicate to the volunteers, churches, organisations and sponsors we want to work with.
Colours & Fonts
We would like to have the logo in 2 versions: one in colour and the other one that can be printed in a single colour of your choice.
So far we have used the following colours and fonts for our newsletters and flyers but we are open for every new suggestion that makes the logo look smooth and appealing!
- Yellow (which we really do like a lot): #F9A825 = 249 - 168 - 37
- Green (which is OK): #009900 = 0 - 153 - 0 and sometimes Dark Green: #006300 = 0 - 99 - 0
- Light Blue (which - from our perspective - doesn’t really fit to the other colours): #75b5d3 = rgb 117 - 181 - 211 and sometimes Dark Blue: #002060 = 0 - 32 - 96
- Josefin Sans: https://www.1001fonts.com/josefin-sans-font.html
Though the international students themselves are not the main group we want to reach with this logo, we want to show consideration for those who are not used to the Latin or Roman alphabet and therefore choose a font which is easily readable!
We are looking for a logo that is meaningful, easily remembered, clearly recognisable even when small-scaled on a business card but also not overwhelming when big-scaled on a roll up banner, simple, printable in a single colour (second version) and not similar to any other (popular) logo.
It should include the welcoming aspect as well as the intercultural aspect and evoke a feeling of friendship, not business.
The logo will be the basis of our corporate identity and will be used online (website, newsletter) and in print (business cards, flyers, roll up banner).
The organisation name MAY be included if needed, but this is not a requirement. If it is included, please put "Connecting Cultures" on one or two lines and "Freundschaft verbindet" (which means: friendship connects) as a separate catchphrase beneath the name.
Ideally, it should be possible to use the logo on its own.
We are very open to your creativity and suggestions! All our thoughts are just ideas. If you as an expert have other suggestions based on your experience and intuition, please do feel free to follow and suggest those ideas.
We appreciate your time and effort and are very much looking forward to you ideas!
