Project description

OPAL is an IT web application to be used for the internal operations of a company. The application is to manage Tenders, Quotations and Collections (of outstanding payments). The name was chosen because this gem is opaque suggesting that it would allow transparency. The goal of the application is to provide transparency across the company operations in order to allow the proper communication, collaboration and management for Tenders and Quotations and also to allow the timely collection of outstanding payments from customers. The Logo should display well with light and dark backgrounds as well as on printed material. The Logo should also display well when the application is used on smartphones and tablets like iPad. Characteristics should be modern, convey sense of communication and collaboration for a final important goal. Any text with the logo should be optional so the logo can stand on its own and also with the text. Chosen text with the logo to prefer use of a typeface that conveys the personality of the logo instead of just using any of the very common typefaces. - Text can be the Name "opal" with (or without) a subtitle. - The prominent text should be the Name of the application “Opal" (preferably in lower case but designer still has freedom of creativity) - The less prominent text should be the words "Tenders, Quotations, Collections". These words can be separated with commas, or any separator that might add to the visual of the logo but also serves to separate these words to convey the message that the application serves these three functionality areas. Variants of the logo could be 1. Logo alone with the designer's design and color 2- Logo alone with dark (black or gray) on white and vice versa 2- Logo alone with white (or gray) on blue of the company logo (attached for reference) and vice versa 3- Logo with Name side by side 4- Logo with Name above and below 5- Logo with Name and subtitle side by side (or maybe the name at the side and the subtitle under the Name) 6- Logo with Name and subtitle above and blow 7- Logo with Name (and/or subtitle) mixed together in whatever designer’s creativity suggests

Comments

  • The attached logo is that of the company the OPAL application will run for. It is provided for reference to the Blue color of the company logo that can be used by the designer as one of the colors used in the logo or as one of the background colors for the logo.
  • We like your design...we are suggesting the following comments: - if you can add a shine or sparkle or shimmering effect on the colored logo - we think the font can be of more personality and rounded edges...look at designs 9, 10 and12 - you are using 4 colors and the application has three words to describe it...we want to add a fourth word representing another distinct functionality inside opal which is "Contracts". - we want to associate each color in the logo with one of the main functionalities of OPAL. This will help us build a different color identity for each of Tenders, Quotations and Collections. Could you add a legend part to the logo explaining the color identity of each of the four words - the color of the font is solid black...we are thinking to use another color like royal blue or baby blue or even gray... - variations of the logo as we explained in our briefing with and without the name and words and also variations with gray on white and vice versa
    • Thanks for the feedback! I'm working on another submission now and I will include a number of variations. I really like your thought concerning the colors coordinating to a certain function of the application, I'll be sure to work that in.

    • I just uploaded the revisions I made to the first version #49, in the new iteration I created custom logo text for 'opal', as well as adding more dimension to the colorful 'o' symbol.

    • Could you also provide another variant of #11 with the following - with a font similar to change the typeface similar to http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Balkeno.htm - with font color #0070b8 - with and without a drop shadow for the logo

    • In entry #58 I added a drop shadow to a few of the iterations and utilized the new font, let me know your thoughts, or any ways I could improve it to better fit your specifications, thanks!

    • #72 includes a few new variations, let me know your thoughts if you get the chance, or if there's anything else that can be done to improve the logo

  • I like your idea of using the dialog bubble to suggest communication.. The logo appears more fun than modern which is not necessary a bad thing but not much to my taste...I will be consulting with the team on their opinion and adjust your grade accordingly...
    • Hi CH, Thanks for feedback. I submitted #31 and #32 for more options for you. Both of them convey the same idea: the dialog bubble incorporated with connections. Hope there's more feedback for improvement. Thanks.

  • now you are back my friend...this is the expected caliber of GJR...we have more contest coming up and I always look forward to seeing your design in particular... I like this design and even liked it more reading your comment about relating it to our goals for the application and logo. If you could add the following variations: - version that is white (or light gray which ever you find more appealing) over black and white over the blue used in the logo - a version with the words Tenders, Quotations, Collections in small text beneath the logo (or however you want to place them). These 3 words would be nice if separated with some distinctive separator as in designs 11 and 17 - a version with the sentence "professional transparency" in small text beneath the logo (or however you want to place it) we might adopt this sentence as the slogan of the application
    • GJR

Hi, Thank you - it's nice to be back :) I have added #28 which shows most of the variations you are looking for. Regarding "professional transparency" - I hope you understand but this looks like it's an idea by another designer so out of fairness I don't think it would be right to include this in my design. The tagline you provided ("Tenders, Quotations, Collections") works very well as it is meaningful and explains the service succinctly. I will watch for any contests you start and I hope I can take part in all of them, it's a pleasure working with you. Thank you.

  • Some feedback from the team... - The old shape of the stone looked better than this triangle shape - The O in the middle is too symmetric..also not to be centered in the stone and the white fill to be heavier and appear more rigid - the shining is too bright and might not work if the icon is used as an App icon for iPhone/Android. If you can make the shine to be part of the stone and to be more subtle
  • Your logo is the best looking so far..you made a good balance in simplicity and personality with your choice of the font and the shape of the logo. Variations we would like to see: - add the three words Tenders, Quotations, Collections - possible variation on the logo if we have a fourth word "contracts" - how will the logo look as an App icon on the iPhone and Android phone? - if we add a texture or mesh to the stone but not to be prominent or not too busy..
    • Dear CH, thank you for your feedback. I added the words as you wish. I modified the symbol for use an App icon as you can see...in color (blue) and black an white The symbol is a Opal with a simple "o" in the middle with 3d shadows and simple text under symbol about #26 The main intention was simple and modern design thank s for your Feedback

  • could you please explain the watermark sketch you have in the back also how would the logo appear if used as an App icon in the iPhone and Android phone
    • In creating logos, geometry plays a big role in my design process, so all the spacing is even and everything is just right. In this particular design I used the Golden Ratio to form my shapes to ensure they would be aesthetically pleasing. I'm working on a new submission now, and I will include a mockup of an app icon

  • nice design... please try it on white background...and with the word opal on the side as in the bottom two also the lower two variation if you could try them with gray instead of black
  • I understand the idea behind the design but i cannot help getting the impression it looks like a medicine pill...
  • your design is really two logos in one... Please do consider separating them apart in two different designs... - the squared shape does give the indication of a precious stone..if you could enhance that impression and also with a subtle shimmer or shine - the word by itself is attractive and your use of the three words underneath it is also neat. It can be considered on its own as a prospect logo but I am more inclined to the square shape because its more exciting and modern so I will focus on the one I like
  • I like the idea and the looks of the logo...if you could do a variation the shows it more modern and the variation of the coloring inside the O appears more like a shimmer or shine..
  • i appreciate the involved effort into making a true beautiful piece of art...but still it appears to me as too complicated to be used as a logo in the application or as an App logo in iPhone/Android
  • CH hello, I propose a new entry #24, the feedback will be very helpful, thank you ...
  • GJR
I have added design #23. I was inspired by this section of your brief - "convey sense of communication and collaboration for a final important goal." The icon conveys connectedness/collaboration with the interlocking curves. the speech bubble shows communication at the centre/heart and both elements come together to create the whole opal (the final goal). I hope this one is more to your liking. Thank you.
  • My friend...I think you set the bar high for us in the Emerald contest and honestly we expected something astounding from you in this contest also.. I have to be honest to say we are a bit disappointed with this design specially comparing to the exceptional work you made in Emerald Would you please read my comments for the other designs I graded and maybe come up with something new worthy of GJR talent :)
    • GJR

Many thanks for your honest feedback, I will try again!

  • I like the shape of the logo and the subtle shine you introduced with playing in the gray levels.. I am not sure of the blue background specially that the logo will be used as an App icon in iPhone and Android phone The font is too robot/computing sense. I would like to see a variation using a font like the font family used in design 10

      |--| Dear CH, Thank you so much for feedback and suggestion. please check my new entry #15 THANKS

  • I believe you did understand our briefing and this is a good effort but it is too simple to deliver the distinguished personality we hope for in an iPhone/Android App and also for an enterprise application
  • the logo is too similar to the Chrome logo and the font is too light and thin
  • Thank you for your entries...I like this one best because it does provide the simplicity we are looking for in the logo. Also its a good idea to put the name in the shape. I am still a bit hesitant about the design because it still does not look as modern as I had hoped... also you showed good understanding of our description with the text "professional transparency"

  • Hi CH,just uploaded #62. The logo shows an office paper rolled like a telescope to look through it.It is illustrated from the front view. Symbolizes transparency and review and relates to office too... Thanks
