Pipedot

I was overwhelmed by the quality and diversity of the submissions. My contest had a total of 528 entries! Each author listened to feedback and modified their designs quickly. The design contest is a great value and I'm likely to start more contests in the future.

Project description

Pipedot is a news and discussion website. Main topics are about science, technology, and online privacy and freedom. Social networking and community driven discussion are major features of the site. http://pipedot.org/ A "pipe" is a character on the keyboard (the vertical bar.) It is used on the UNIX command line to channel data to and from different programs. It is not directly related to plumbing. It is defiantly not related to drugs. Do's Symbol/Pictoral/Letterform Logos Lowercase "p" and "d" have a neat symmetry Playing off the characters "|" and "." Simple - Should still be recognizable (not too busy) when shrunk down to icon size Dont's ALL CAPS - All caps is considered shouting Serif fonts - No serifs, I prefer a more modern look Complex - 50 dots is about 49 too many Wordmark - I'm interested more in a symbol than a stylized text string

  • http://www.designcontest.com/logo-design/pipedot/entry/249/ your entry is a copy of entry form another contest http://www.designcontest.com/logo-design/phrozen-software/entry/60/
    • Oh Ok. I didnt see your comment. Do you want any specific colors? Thanks, K

    • I do like the #506890 blue; not sold on the orange. Of course, looking more at the design and less on the color.

    • I uploaded a new design #3 Changed the color, no caps. The Half circle/curve stands for: bringing the conversation online (around the world).

  • hallo... CH... Thank's for your feedback ... I tried to make another design, Please check my entri # 64, Thanks
  • Dupe of #43
    • Dear Bryan, Thank you for your appreciation & attention @ #42 and #43. Please give me directions to make my designs better and suit your style. Regards, Dj

  • #49 is better
  • Better colors than #20, but the extra dots make it too complex.
  • Drop the all caps text; the symbol shows promise though.
  • Dupe of #46
  • Hello CH. What u think about #38? best regards ------
    • I like the circle design but the stem/whitespace of the p/d is too skinny. When scaled down it would just disappear. I don't like either of the fonts chosen for the "pipedot" text.

  • hallo... CH... Please check my entri # 55, Any feedback will be helpful. Thanks
  • Dear Bryan, Please give me early feedback and directions for #42 and #43, with the new-original concept : the 2 ARROWS FORMED A "p" , A "d" AND A TALKING BUBBLE. Hopefully you like it, Regards, Dj
  • I submitted #37 for your review. I went with a design that is clean and easy to read when sized large & small, along with a more modern font. I played off the "|" as you suggested, and implemented a talk bubble that goes along with your website's goal. I look forward to your feedback!
  • Hello Bryan! I made my first entry for this contest, #32 I thought i'd try and implement what the website was about, yet a clever "pipe" design and also have the two main letters "p" and "d" represented! Feedback is well appreciated, Thank you! - Alex
    • Neat, hadn't thought of chat bubbles inside the "p" and "d" before. Kinda like it :)

    • Do you reckon there's anything to change, to make you like it better? :)

  • Dupe #28
  • Dupe #28
  • All caps
  • Hello CH, just submitted #26 and #28 with different color scheme. What do you think? Thanks!
  • Hello ch! here is my first test #27! let me know what you think :)
  • Dupe of #10 (colored dot on the i is better though)
  • I like the two designs, but this one is easier to parse the "p" and "d" than #7. The font is clean and pretty, but I'm not sure of the filled "o"
  • No serifs
