The Blot Spot

The process with DesignContest.com was terrific. I had received a quote of $1,000 from a local graphic designer but decided to go with designcontest.com instead. I'm so glad that I did. Instead of having one person's take on my logo I had over 70 designers submit logo designs. While some were not very good at all, many were excellent and I am very pleased with the final logo I received. As a contest creator, the more work and feedback you give to the designers the better your experience will likely be. Come take a look at http://www.theblogspot.com soon to see the logo that came from my contest.

Project description

I am looking for a logo design for a website that I am creating that will hopefully be a "one-stop shop" for all things Rorschach. In case you aren't familiar, the Rorschach Inkblot Test is a personality test that is very powerful and informative, yet highly misunderstood both in professional circles and with lay audiences.

I'm creating this website (theblotspot.com) to be several things:

- home to a blog/podcast about Rorschach research
- a (private) forum for psychologists to discuss Rorschach-related issues.
- (Most importantly) a place to market professionals to my online course where I teach/train how to use the Rorschach via the Teachable online platform.

In terms of the design, something related to inkblots would be great, but DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ACTUAL RORSCHACH BLOTS, but use their colors and symmetry as inspiration.  Check the actual images for ideas on what the blots in the logo should look like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rorschach_test#Inkblots

I'd like for the logo to be fairly simple, especially as I would like for it to be able to morph into a similar styled logo to go with course (which I think I would name, "Blot Pros".)

The taglines (which don't have to be included) I am leaning towards currently are either:

1.) "The Hub for all things Rorschach"
2.) "Integrating all things Rorschach"

  • While these were all good designs, these are being eliminated now. #250 #228 #65 #375 #360 #349 #346 #333 #128 #369 #359 #199 #382 #206 #192 #143 #142 #126 #119 #83 #62 #350 #347 #343 #342 #141 #115 #344 #334 #162 #139 #77 #40 #386 #358 #122 #51 #384 #381 #348 #323 #226 #389 #364 #357 #120 #61 #372 #313 #225 #182 #161 #322 #392 #361 #281 #370 #280 #397 #324 #211 #354 #373 #374 #398 #394 #376 #395 #355 #312 #391 #390 #328 #393 #388 #327 #326 #325 #292 #363
  • How does this differ from #380? #396
  • Symmetry is nice! I like the versions with more dark blot areas though. #383
  • Cool, but of your designs I like #277 better. #382
  • Nice take off of the other designs. #385
  • Also, we aren't integrating "all things"...that would be crazy! :-) #392
  • Not bad. The different ink areas just don't have the same textural quality of some of the other designs. Maybe the color is too saturated or something. I'm not sure. #392
  • Cool looking design, but the blot looks more like a drawing and doesn't give you much sense of an inkblot. #386
  • Cool design, but it is very much drawn objects so there isn't a good fit with the ambiguous nature of the Rorschach blots. #398
  • Cool, but don't care for the drip. Looks like blood. #384
  • Too scary looking. #391
  • Pretty, but not really in Rorschach theme. #395
  • Nice change. It looks more like a Rorschach blot now. #380
