Project description

MEMYWAY is a company developing a mobile app aimed at 16-18 year olds within the United Kingdom to help them make better choices about their career next steps. The Minimum Viable Proposition is currently focused on 16-18 year olds with the longer term plan to extend the app’s services to support young people between the ages of 14 and 22.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

HEADLINE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The following are the overarching aims and objectives of MEMYWAY:

·      Enable young people to take a holistic view of themselves as they begin the process of choosing subjects, post 18 pathways, and how they intend to develop and progress into adulthood.

·         Provide them with a range of tools, in language and technological forms that they will want to engage with.

·         Provide them with resources, of all kinds, to help them better understand themselves, as a fundamental platform for exploring options, ideas, dreams, and making choices that expand rather their limit their possibilities.

·         Shift the balance from parents ‘leading’ to young people feeling empowered and capable of making informed choices.

·         The ultimate ‘Lonely Planet’ guide to your own personal adventure into adulthood. Where shall I go, what shall I do, how do I find it, and how do I prepare for and cope with the journey.

CORPORATE VALUES

The App provides four main services

  • An assessment area to help young people understand more about who they are and what motivates and interests them. This includes quizzes and questionnaires which (amongst others) include for example a Personality assessment, a Strengths assessment, a Career interests questionnaire

  • ‘MyOptions’ which signposts and gives advice to navigate through existing university, apprenticeship and career information to help them decide on their best routes

  • ‘MyActions’/’MeMy Next Steps’ – this gives advice and help with creating the young person’s application whether for university, apprentices or jobs – it signposts to useful information about applications, gives key dates, creating CVs, writing personal statement

  • A premium paid for service by professionals which is likely to provide small group webinars, one to one coaching support, editing and feedback services for students who feel they need more individualised help

WHAT WE NEED FROM A DESIGNER

We have trialled some basic wireframes and are now in the process of developing these into a more developed prototype for further testing. We want this prototype to show:

Corporate colours We need suggestions for corporate colours to be used for the background screens as well as suitable other colours for boxed options or headings (as shown in the example graphic below), Colours - We quite like the Pantone colours 3533 C or 3534 C and possibly the use of navy blue alongside the Pantone colour but are also open to other suggestions.

FontsWe need to identify a suitable font(s) for key and subheadings which works on mobile applications and is attractive to a young audience.

Icons We would like example graphical illustrations or suitable icons which could be used in the prototype development to help the trial group get a better feel for the end-user journey. Examples are needed for:

  • the different key service offerings of:

  -  'Me' or 'MyStrengths' which represents the indivdiual who may be undertaking the assessment/following heir progress of completing various tasks.

 - ‘MyOptions’ which represent the exploration of the person’s study and career options and the signposting and navigation through existing websites

 - ‘MyActions’ which helps the young person plan and work towards their goals with step by step help and guidance

The Premium/Pro paid for services

  • navigation options at the bottom of the screen (see attached example graphic)

  • Suggestions to visually show the individual's progress to date on completing a set number of tasks

EXAMPLE VISUAL OF DRAFT PROTOTYPE

I have attached some very draft visuals of an earlier draft prototype wire frame for the app – the terminology of the various sections may change but these are included to show the example boxed format, the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen and the task completion
