Fishing shirt with a dry sense of humor

I am very pleased with the work you did. Thank you very much. I wish there was a way we could work together on some other designs. I have several more that I need and would love to work with you on those too. Do I need to go through the contest process again?

Project description

We need a t-shirt design that consists of a realistic Dolphin in the foreground. That fish is being drawn out of the water towards a boat in the background. The boat has a person in it that is almost covered with other Dolphin that have been sucked out of the water, attracted to the fisherman who is wearing one of our shirts. There are other fish in various stages of arriving in the boat. There should be a banner on the top "Certified" in smaller letters like a stamp of approval, "Dolphin Magnet". The "Certified" is as if you have gone through some USDA testing or something. Once again a little humor there. Catch phrases along the bottom might be, "Dolphin are attracted to me" or "Rod and Reel Optional", or "I FISH but I also DUCK!". The whole design should be a realistic depiction of a Dolphin fishing trip. The designs I have that don't sell well are the ones that are too cartoony. I know that isn't a word but I hope you get the idea. Most fishermen just want a picture of their quarry on their shirt. Some will actually get the jokes. But it is very important to have the fish look like a real fish. Some designs I have include a magnet creatively incorporated into the design. Some have used lightening bolts to show the attraction powers at work. I am open to other ideas along these same lines. I'm hoping someone can wrap all this into a great new t-shirt design. Please include a Trademark Symbol by the "Dolphin Magnet". Thank you in advance for your interest in this project.

  • Hi there...a few questions color limit? will this be screen printed or transfer print? Thanks much
  • Dear bassmagnet, I have improved my design with my entry #7. Please let me know if you are still interested on a more accurate illustration. I am affraid such detail will need to be worked as a raster file, for your knowledge. Thank you for considering my work :)
  • As I look at your fish I am thinking that it would lend itself to an embroidered hat. I don't think we could get much more accurate than that on an embroidered hat. Maybe if the Dolphin Magnet were the bigger words and the "dolphin are attracted to me" were the smaller ones? I'm not sure if I can add to these comments or not. I would guess I can. I would love to sleep on these and come back with more feedback tomorrow. I hope that will work. Thank you again for all your hard work.
  • I like the fisherman in the background and all the fish flying at him. Your dolphin is better than most. I think you are doing a good job and I like your work. I would like to compete with the big sellers in the fishing shirt industry. And there shirts have very realistic fish. They are an artist's interpretation but still very accurate. I would like our design to be just as accurate but with a sense of humor added. Our fish are just as real but acting in an unreal fashion. They are being drawn out of the water, against their will. I could be wrong but I think the words should be less prominent. There will always be people that will like/dislike, agree with or disagree with words. I don't think any dolphin fisherman will disagree with a big dolphin on their shirt.I hope this helps and I like your work. Thank you very much.
  • Thank you Sequoia. This is interesting.
  • Hi Keara. I am sorry that I don't understand your question. The common name is Dolphin. Some areas in the world refer to them as Dorado. The scientific name is Coryphaena hippurus. The males are called bulls and have a tall, flat face. The female cows have a more curved head. The head shape is not subtle, it is very distinct. I hope that answers your question.
  • what is the specific name of this dolphin?
  • If there is anything else I can do to help, just let me know. I am off to work now though. I'll be back in about 11 hours and check back then.
  • As I can download the samples? Thanks!
  • Thank you for the examples, this will help the designers alot!
  • I have posted these two images in an effort to help. I hope I am doing that and not hurting the process. This is my first time using this site and I'm not sure what the best way to use it is. Anyway, one image is a Dolphin I painted in watercolors. I got lazy on the tail so that isn't quite right but at least everyone can see what a dolphin looks like. The other image is a sketch of how I see the design. You will be able to see why I need an artist to help me, because I am not a very good one. But, at least you can see what I have been thinking about. I hope this helps :)
  • Hi Sequoia. Thanks for your interest. In my mind, the fisherman is a small part of the design. I think most of the people that buy the shirt will buy it for the picture of the fish. That is why I was thinking the fish should take up the majority of the space. But, I would say that fisherman that is half covered in fish would be both surprised (at how well his Dolphin Magnet shirt works), and pretty happy about the results. He could even be mostly or completely buried in Dolphin. I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. And please know that you may have a way better idea than the ones rolling around in my head. So feel free to express yourself.
  • Dear bassmagnet, what is the fisherman reaction to this magnet power?, when he sees the dolphins come in, is he scared?, is he proud? This will save me big time illustrating what you have in mind. Thanks in advance.
  • Hi Sharie, I'm sorry I did not see your question until now. You can use all the colors you like. I can have the shirts made with either process. I am most concerned with a good design. I'll deal with the printing company when I have a design I think fishermen will like. Thank you very much and I look forward to seeing your design. Have a great day. Bob F.
  • The use of cliparts is forbiden. Read the rules again. Picture found here:
  • Dear CH, It's happy to see the deadline postponed then I will have enough time to do modification for you. THX THX
  • Thanks Clover. You definitely have the idea.
  • Would you mind putting the words Dolphin Magnet in a ribbon across the top. You could eliminate the USDA label and we could use that on the pocket on the front of the shirt. You know I like that label you made so I don't want to lose it all together. It would be good on the front. Thank you again for being so good at what you do.
  • If you changed the words Rod and Reel optional into Dolphin Magnet we might be on to something. That font is fun and you have very nice style. Thank you very much for helping me out here.
  • Where you have rod and reel optional you could change that to say "Dolphin Magnet". Your fish is pretty good and the gold label is intersting. Thank you for your art work.
