Hey fellow DC members and mods

I was wondering if it was ok to use images from Freepik for poster or book cover contests cause I already have the subscription and can provide the design with better quality as most of the non-free platforms have limited resources.

I hope the rule to not use images from platforms like Freepik only applies for logo designs where you are tasked with making it yourself.

Please clarify my doubt
Thanks in advance! :)

Hi!

It depends - normally you can, but If there is your part of design as well, and also if art policy (copyirght and use permission etc.) allows it.

Also, if client asks for original art then you can not use stock art/images.

Hey Babba! Thanks for the reply,

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, you are saying that I cant use stock images if:

If I make a low effort design where little to no work is done.
If I don't have the copyright permission.
and If the client asked specifically for original art.

Sorry to bother you with another question but I hope I got the right message

Thanks again
Basil J

Yes, you can use stockart or stockimags if their license allows it, and if client does not require original art, and depending of the contest category.

About the other part - make sure when using stockart you make your work on the final product. For example... client asks for book cover - it will not be okay if designer use stock photo and put pure text over it. Or if client wants tshirt design and designer use clipart/stockart and place just a text. Or use Freepik template for business card, poster, brochure, webdesign... and similar.

The logic is - what is your design there? Why would client pay for something like that? And, is it fair toward other designers?

If you are using stockphotos for brochures and flyers content, books, it is expected, just make sure, as I wrote, its license allows it, so client will not have any problems with it.

Am I clear now? I know it may sound confusing.
