Some of the links I've seen to porfolios, I see that they display for example their brochure not as a small image of the front view, layered over the a glimpse of the inside, etc. I'll have to take some time to make mine have images displya in this format. ; )
I'm interested in some of the open to everyone contests... how often do they generally get updated? Like the non-profit one? Would be fun to try, as I'm not on the design team
cheers to you today.. wishing you joy.

We haven't had non profit contests for a while now. We haven't had community contests for a few months either, but this is going to change. We have a new system for managing the community contests and a new DC t-shirt design contest. The goal is (and I think it is very doable) to have an open community contest at any given moment. So that any members would find something interesting to participate in.
Cool, thanks... I will keep looking around and seeing what's available. This is a hobby for me more than anything, as I never got a degree in graphic arts, but somehow it's what I've ended up doing, and all self taught. Do people here frown on that?

no, there are a lot of self taught designers around here. Some of them are very good, better than some design school graduates.

thanks both! What design courses/where are you enrolled Rockhart? I work at a Univ. and I'm considering going back to school to get a second degree... but I really can't draw worth a crap, I'm more of a digital junkie
well right now I'm not taking any (had to make it through Freshman art core requirements) but next year i'm taking Graphic Design 1 and 2. anyways I'm attending Montana State University (its has one of the best graphic design programs in the northwest). Even though I do have a stong fine art background, the nice thing about Graphic Design is that you don't have to be able to draw... it just helps

How fun! What kind of stuff did you do in the Freshman art core? To apply to our program (at USU) I would have to: submit a "cd of ten digital images of your best art work completed within the last two years. Digital files will be projected for faculty evaluation. We recommend that you represent your highest quality work produced in any discipline including: drawing, ceramics, graphic design, illustration, painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture." also, it goes on to say "At least two of these images MUST be representative of your ability to draw from life. These TWO drawings need to be produced from actual/direct observation (no photo references) of a subject; set up a still life, draw from a figure or an interior space. All works should reflect an original approach to concept and design. The art faculty will evaluate images with particular consideration given to technical skills, two-dimensional and three-dimensional compositional development, and original/creative thinking."
*sigh*
I could audit the classes for free since I already work on campus, but that's only if there is room in them for me. But then, I wouldn't earn a degree... and I'm not sure if that's my ticket to earning more in this field or not... perhaps just the experience is?
Right now, I'm doing what I enjoy, and I get to make stuff on the computer all day, but I'm not exactly making bank to do it

m
