Just thought I'd say hi. I'm new here and hopefully looking to start some contests soon.

Is $150 the minimum amount I can do for a contest? Could someone tell me roughly how many entries one could expect to see? Just a rough estimate is fine.

If things work out well I might have a bunch of graphic design contests to hold..

welcome to DC.
First I'd like to suggest to start here DesignContest.net | For Clients

As for entries it all depends on the amount of $ and the project it self.

When you say "a Bunch of graphic design contests" it makes me think that you might be outsourcing work and turning a profit, but would hate to assume.

pm navadabadgirl and ask some questions.

Yes, the page Coy referred to in the previous post should answer most of your questions. As for the number of entries that you can expect to see in your contest, as a general rule the higher the prize the more entries you will see as naturally the higher prize would attract more interest to your contest.
As for the minimum number of entries, we also have some refund policies for such cases. You can easily find the informqtion on the website.

By the way, I'd like to share a funny experience. I wish I still had the picture to show people. It was hilarious.

I used the website rentacoder.com a few times. Mostly I use it to get website help in which I don't know how to do. So, one time I got this great idea to re-design the website at the company I work for. Originally it was ugly. I designed the new website originally, but used royalty free images from somewhere else and a template from somewhere else.

So anyway, I go on rentacoder, describe the graphics I want to draw, and put that I will pay up to XX amount. On there you can choose to only allow bids from certain countries like USA (usually more expensive, but 99% of the time the people from here understand things) or you can do other countries (where sometimes people don't speak good English, but the work is done really cheap due to money conversion).

So, my idea is a palm tree, some water, a beach, etc. This Indian dude draws me a picture that looks like a kid in 3rd grade school can do better! The palm tree literally looked like a turd.

On the positive side with rentacoder: I have one guy from the Ukraine. He works very cheap, maybe the money is good in his country, he always understands exactly what I need every time. Although he does website design, not graphics.

Was one of my posts deleted here? It was longer, but I'll post the short version here:

I wanted to be sure you guys knew that I wasn't outsourcing. I'm starting a t-shirt business and need designs, website, logo, etc. I have about 30 design ideas.

Sounds good.. As I stated I didn't want to ass-ume:)

There is a verry talented pool of designers here and the process to become and "elite" keeps the ones out that might come up with a turd-tree LOL..

You can look over the talent here by viewing the finished contests area, as well as the rest of the design contest section.

good luck and hope to see a contest from you soon.

I'll try to describe it more because you seem interested.

I drew a MOCKUP really quick using GiMP. The sketch looked like a 6 year old drew it. It was supposed to just let you know.. he make a palm tree here, some water here, some beach here, maybe a bird in the sky, etc. Then you take all those elements and put them together into a work of art in which I could put atop my website. Below that I'd have a menu and below that the rest of the site.

What did he do? Pretty much made the graphics as crappy as the mockup I already did, but made them worse.

The "turd tree" was like maybe supposed to be the trunk of a palm tree, but it was like a turd standing up if I remember correctly.

I can view my past rentacoder things, but can't view the messages or attachments. It gives me an error message.

I contacted them, so let's see if I can recover this and have a good laugh.

Well, I wasn't able to uncover the picture of the turd, but I was able to find a picture of the guy and my comments:

"are you for real? that looked like someone in 6th grade made it
you expect me to use that for a business website?
I asked someone to draw me a palm tree, not a brown spikey turd
I also didn't ask for someone to steal some pictures of birds off Google and paste them in the sky."
