Sometimes, in the freelance industry, you need to deliver .ai files, also, :D. That being said i will provide a link that can save time and ... hair.

It's easy to save a file as an ai from corel. I mean it's right in the options when you go to save it. Sometimes you have to watch your outlines, and make sure they are set correctly because that can cause issues (outline get's thicker or thinner when opened in corel) but besides that I have had no issues. You can also export the file from corel as an Eps which can be opened in Adobe illustrator, again just make sure all outlines are set correctly. (scaled with image) or sometimes you might want to even convert outline to object. Oh! and make sure ALL fonts are converted to outlines/curves.

If lines (strokes) are expanded then there should be no issue with lines being thicker or thicker

there are times when its tricky, the link explains pros and cons of different methods. I had problems, and eps was not a solution. i did it in the end, but with lot of stress, the link really helps if you're not familiar with illustrator.
