I have to get myself in the right frame of mind when starting a project. I will play specific music according to the mood I want to be in for the project and then I will do research. For instance, if I need to design something for the medical field I will look into various medical websites and blogs to get into the zone for that specific project. I find it really helps me get in tune with my client's needs.
What really bothers me is when you have found great inspiration for a design and you are excited about the direction it is going in and then the client wants you to go the complete opposite way. It's like "No! Just... just let me do my thing." Lol
