To take out an image from its background using PHP do the following:

1.Open your image and double check that it is 24 bit.
2.Select the Freehand selection tool and set it to Smart Edge and then check on the Antialias box under Controls Palette.
3.Click right on the edge of the carnation and move a bit and then click again while moving around the edge of that carnation. What Smart edge does is sample the colors and then snaps your selection of the color which is closest to the position you are clicking
When you have your entire shape selected and have met the point where your started, double click to join the whole selection.
4.From the top menu go to Masks/New/Show Selection. You will see your carnation here and your background will be transparent.
5.Go to Masks and click View Mask then Edit. This will show your selected shape with a red and pink background. Deselect it.
6.There might still be some dark or light pixels around the dge of your shape, you can clean this up by setting your foreground color to black and then setting your paint brush tip to 2 pixels. Then using the zoom tool to zoom in on your picture.
7.Click on the unwanted pixels with the paint brush. This will take them away and red and pink from the mask will show through. You can use the eraser tool to get rid of unwanted pixels as well.
8. Now click on your shape using the Magic Wand. This will select your shape. Go to Selections/Modify/Contract and then feather your selection by 1. This will smooth the edges so they would transition well in the background. Turn off Masks Edit and Masks View. Now copy your selection.
9.Open your background that you want to use and select Paste As a New Layer. Name your new layer. Now right click on the layer selection and go to Properties. You will now have a two layered graphic. The bottom layer which is the background and the second layer is the shape.
10.You can resize the shape by going to Image/Resize, and uncheck "Resize All Layers", and select "Resize Type", Smart Resize, and enter the new size in pixels or percentages.
11.You can click on your shape layer and change the opacity slider.
12.Once you are done editing your image go to Layers/Merge/Merge All and Save your image as a jpg .
