I have learned most of html coding and a basic knowledge of javascript from going to www.htmlite.com . I want to move on to learning php but the problem is that it is server side script.

Is there any programs out there that you can preview php without a server, or is there any free hosting sites that supports php(i don't care if it has many ads, it would be only for practice)?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be of help. Thankyou in advance for any replies :)

Why not check out basic tutorials at www.php.net? It's the best place to start and as you go you'll be going back there all the time.

To try your php sites you have just to install php4, apache and mysql on your pc, working on local. Just download EasyPhP from the net and it should install all what you need to make your pages and to test and check them, and to make all the experiments you need.

A good point where to start is www.php.net , as already suggested. I know also other but they are italian sites.

For Php there should be a lot of free PhP supporting hosting services... one of these is www.altervista.org , the only problem is that it is in italian... no advertising required, teorically unlimited space.

Other free services:

http://www.f2g.net/ (15Mb)
http://www.united.net.kg/ (15Mb)
http://hosting.free2code.net/ ( 50Mb - community member)
http://www.cometstream.net/ (50Mb - banner exchange)

Yeah best way to work with php is on your own PC.

Try these hosts. I can't be bothered checking specs right now but I think the only thing they restricted is file or bandwidth:

Hope it helps :)

I found this awesome free hosting website...
PHP / MySQL, FTP, everything :D

I used it for about 6 months before I bought my website, and they only had 1 major downtime!

The address is http://www.coolfreepages.com

Hope this helps!

It also just has one pop-under ad, so your actual page is not tampered with at all!

I have noticed one major problem with free web hosts (especially those with PHP & mysql):
They start up one day, and because of costs they are forced to shut down in a couple of months.

Now, there are MANY hosts out there that only cost about $1-$5 a month (really not alot of money, I spend more on lunch every day) and while they are nothing amazing, they will do the job for you and still have a high chance of being around more than a year.
