Over half the contest I have submitted in have gone on to extend the deadlines to their contest, yet many have provided very little feedback and next to none rating points. If they were not interested in my designs I would have shrugged this off; however, In 3 of the 5 I have been in top rated designs before they extended the deadline. (the other two have provided zero ratings which is another issue).
I think there should be some changes for the contest holder if they want to extend the contest. More involvement for one, and feedback beyond "Flip 'the logo' " and "more color variation" or worse yet, silence.
It simply sucks to be in a contest where all the lead logos have less than fifty points and you have to sit through another week or more of either other designers borrowing the leaders designs, or a blind contest, while the ch provides zero feedback on direction.
Does anyone have any suggestions to a solution to this?

The only several solutions for this: DC system should constantly update CH by mail (send 2 or 3 emails a day, depending on his progress). This could be achieved when some stats will be provided for all, such as when CH logged, last time CH ranked design, last time CH commented. This stats should be placed somewhere on the contest page. Depending on CH's progress, in the Overall contests page (Browse for all contests button) should be some kind of icons which attract or repel designers, so CH needs to be aware – the less he participates the less he gets (we see stats and decide wether it's good CH or not). I'd rather not participating in the contest if I see CH is @##$ based on these stats.
Moreover, to each CH should be assigned a manager (mod perhaps), so in case his inactivity manager could make a call and find out what is going on and give some advices how to conduct a contest.

we do help the ch and give advice on how to run a contest, WE CAN'T force the ch to run a contest a certain way. Many choose to give no feedback, or rate. Emails are sent out to all contestholders as well
In the end it is the choice of the contestholder as to how they want to run the contest they pay for, We advise and strongly encourage being active

maybe it is because you are never happy with anything. You always find the negative of any changes we do for our designers and site, never once have you thank you for any of the hard work our developers do to make this a great site for all,
The ratio is no more higher here than anywhere else. The other "large"site has an illusion of lower ratio
