I admire Herb Lubalin a lot. He always had a great idea when he did a logo, and he executed the ideas in great, and still very clean, ways:

Herb Lubalin logos look better than most of the winning designs now. They stand the test of time and, most importantly, the test of having a client with good taste.

I agree, the hardest part of designing logos is to find the right clients. Clients that have taste, know what they want and can give feedback. They're rare, very rare :-).
