Usually by not doing anything creative. I tend to read a lot, especially non-fiction. A lot on new-tech, politics and music journalism. Always gets my brain working in a certain way, where the ideas come from. This usually happens in the middle of night, when I'm about to fall asleep. I think your brain goes a bit weird at that time of night (at least mine does).

That's why I keep a notepad beside my bed :D

I've actually got a mind mapping app on my tablet, but haven't used it yet. I really like writing, stream-of-consciousness style. For me it tends to wiggle loose things I didn't even know were in my head.

I know taking a long shower helps for sure. :)
Taking your dog for a walk works too. However not everyone has a dog, but you can always imagine one. :D

Making a day of break in thinking, creating, browsing. Spending time with friends, going out. I feel more creative force and have more ideas after such gap day or two.

If I'm stuck I usually like to go for a walk or doodle. I think taking a walk and being outside just helps to relax and kind of feel rejuvenated to focus and come up with a design. When I doodle, it's kind of mindless and I just do it to keep my hands moving so by no means are my doodles any good but for some reason it helps me get in a creative mood.
