I've been noticing in a few open contests lately that other designs start to look eerily similar to the leading submission. As a designer who feels it's my duty to come up with an original concept at what point is it considered copying another design?

There is no point in copying EGDesign. You will notice many copies disappearing over time.
Please report such entries and if they are judged copies then they will be removed.
Please make sure that you have checked the brief properly before doing so though - In some contests the brief is so clear that the designs will look similar. Logo redesign contests can end up with very similar entries.

Thank you for clarifying this. I've been wondering the same thing. I find it incredibly frustrating sometimes knowing another designer has taken my concept, but not my exact design- then wondering if there's nothing I can do to bring attention to or avoid that... Other than avoiding non-blind contests all together.

An example is the contest you just won..the contestholder even felt your idea /concept was copied , that or those entries were taken care of because they had clipart in them. We have moderators in the contest and try to find these but need your eyes also. There is a report button on every contest entry
