Question about getting started

I'm really interested in being greatly involved here at DC, but I just wanted to ask generally what is the best way to get started?

My goal is to be on the Design Team, but I understand that there is a process here. I want to understand what is the best way to move along and to be helpful to everyone here. I am honestly looking for a good way to build a portfolio, but I do want to catch the true spirit of this site.

How can I help? I want to gain the respect of the people here. How do I best do this?

Any advice?

Hello, and welcome to DC! When just starting out here, its best start with some community contest in the forum to build up some designs. Build your own designs too of course, and then you would need a web portfolio online to get on the team. You also need 15+ posts and a paypal. Also, posting in the showoff section is always a good way to get thoughts about your work.

I can see a couple of expired contests in the community contest forum, but not a running one. Am I looking in the wrong place? If not, how often do these contests run?
