This was news to me!
Many of you who run earlier versions of Adobe Creative Suite products and not the Creative Cloud products may be in for a costly surprise.
If your old computer fails and you need to install your old software on a new machine, you will find that your old activation numbers (serial numbers) no longer work. Adobe has taken the activation servers offline. OUCH!
Your software dies with the computer.
This means that you will have to subscribe to Creative Cloud to access Adobe products.
Casual or occasional hobby use of the software will be impractical.
This might limit participation in crowd source design contests to those who can justify the subscription fee.
It feels like extortion.
