That would be pretty cool!

I'm new here is this only logo artwork only or are there ever any webdesign contest as well?

I wonder if this site would attract photography jobs...

Photography contest seems very abstract to me.Should there be any standards as ,which camera used , or minimum settings that must be followed. Can armature pictures taken on mobiles be regarded as valid entries??

If there was any, I'd be in it right away. I guess there might be a reason I occasionally go outside to take a picture and practice my photo taking skills.

A photography contest would definitely be a good idea and a good way to get other artist with a different skill set in the site.

I think photography contests would be great as well but.....on a marketing viewpoint, where and who would you market a photography contest to? Book and magazine publishers? Book and magazine publishers have used the same way to get images for yrs and yrs, either by staff or freelancers sending in. Don't get me wrong I love photography and have sold many images to magazines, I'm just trying to see how designcontest would market this idea to prospective clients.

Any ideas? BTW if You have some ideas check this out

My First Post Guys :). I came up on this thread as I like photography. This post started in 2007. From the first page of posts I started expecting "Its been 3 year, something must have started with photography submission on DC". But i dont think anything is there yet. I liked the post and efforts but did not like that nobody of 3489 viewers have requested to admins for taking a good step. DC Admins: i apologies but people are interested contributing and is there no one interested starting? DC is really great a lot of quality people all around and initiating nice stuff too. I am looking for some option so can approach admins? I hope thats possible here :)

Good luck

if we keep it simple, a photo contest can be done. No money envolved, just a community contest. A theme can be choosen, like "wild animals" or "domestic animals" or "funny" or "winter" etc. The winner is declared by the vote and the prize ... ethernal glory. Rules, the photo must be your and within the theme.

Some themed photo contests would be a great idea. Maybe DC could create a stock photo collection with the submissions?

Photography contests could be fun - But, I feel that there should be some type of editing done to the image, to make it "design". I realize that photography requires skill and is considered art, absolutely - but is it considered "design"?

Photography can very well be considered design. In todays world almost all photography is edited to some extent. If you go back to Ansel Adams, he hand edited almost all of his black white photography. There has been a long time argument about photography and art. old schoolers have had a hard time with digital photograqphy, saying that it isn't true photography. If you go back to art oil painters took along time to accept acrylic paints. Then go to art and graphic design. There are so many cross overs and blending nowadays. Today there are some designs that have many genres combined. Look at posters and flyers

Now as design goes it is subjective and goes toward the need of the client. I could see at some point photography contests. An example that could be, A ch needs a flower photo for a book cover, or what about a CH wanting a mountain photo for a cd cover. I think the needs are endless.

We use photos all the time in banner ads and website design. I think when we see the word photography we tend to think portrait, models and such but forget how versatile photography, art, design really is and how all these elements can be blended together and used in soooo many ways.

does that count?

I am not sure if there are allot of photographers here. And making photos needs allot of time. Most designers uses stock photo's. However I like making photographs and got special stuffs for it.
