The tutorial links are useful. As far as the text problem, even I use the same trick of keeping my original font and duplicating it and outlining it. This is very simple rather than adding additional layer to the text.

I wanna thank everyone for commenting on this original post. I love all the feedback and tutorials! It is so nice to see that we are all true designers that want to help one another....no matter if this is a contest site or not. That is super cool as I am always willing to lend a helping hand, advice, etc.

Im glad to finally be super comfortable with using the gradient tool now and saving new gradients. Feels like I learn something new everyday. :)

Gradients are wonderful, fantastic, exciting drawing tools. Occasional problems can occur when using transparency. For example, the Fading sky gradient has a transparent slider. Most printers require a flattened high resolution PDF for press. Sometimes you get unexpected results when "expanding" or "flattening" your art. This is something to keep your eye on as it does not appear in the native layered transparent file. Just saying...:)

after turning text to outlines, you may also need to make it a compound path.
