it's insane to do such a trace in illustrator... why not model it in 3-D? and only design geeks will know how much effort it took. but...i appreciate dedication.

You think he is traceing the maps above the starting pictures or makes them all by zero? In the second case I would find his art much more impressive.

Incredible in any case :)

Its kind of a "climb the mountain because its there" thing, but it just seems like a lot of effort to get something you could have done in a half hour in photoshop... never the less, very impressive.

Yeah...but photoshop is not completely scalable...everyone forgets this is VECTOR BASED... this image can be massive and not lose a single spec of detail...no pixelation here!

I actually made some vector based illustrations for my "sauce Label" I am working on. I create the fruit with gradient meshes and the bongos are just gradients and opacity masks.

Impressive, but why put that much effort into it when you can probably create it in a 3D program much faster?

I agree with arcticsnpr.

An image like that takes a lot of dedication and I think that's one of the main advantages in doing it in Illustrator... I mean, who can honestly say they've done something like this in Illustrator?
