can photos be aprt of a logo?

Does vector only logos mean that there can be no photos incorporated into a logo or other artwork?

    Thanks,

According to our rules photos as is cannot be used in logo design unless it's specified otherwise by the contest's description.
However you can use photos as reference (providing that you have legal right to do so) for your vector artworks.

But it is possible to ask for designers to make a realistic looking vector render of something. However the more detailed or more shape the certain object have takes the more time to make them. But would mainly only use for online web2.0 and on full color prints. But these jobs often take way more time than normal vector logo or other vector design.
Like this shoe I tried to make as realistic as possible.
