Look at a community contest as practice and a break from everyday logo design.
If I understand right the community chest is like a non profit area that designers can donate their work for free.... right?
Are these designs mixed up within the contest area or is there just a section for these.
THANKS

Depending on what the contest is , A community contest you own the design/logo if you win, it states that right in the brief
If you win a professional contest then the contest holder owns the logo/design

A community contest is not a non profit contest. You can win a tshirt in the community contest, you are not donating work in a community contest. In a community contest you retain ownership of the design.
