Toyama 9th Poster Triennal. If you design posters read this!
Normally we don't post about contests outside DC, but there are certain exceptions for big events like International Poster Triennal held by Museum of Modern Art of Toyama, Japan. As you can guess the triennal happens every three years. It's a really big event with good prizes and an excellent international jury:
Werner JEKER (Switzerland), Michel BOUVET (France), Mitsuo KATSUI (Japan), Koichi SATO (Japan)
Grand-Prix: 1 million yen(one from both categories) is't about $10 000 I believe?
Gold Prize: 500,000yen each(two prizes from both categories)
Silver Prize: 300,000yen each(three prizes from both categories)
Bronze Prize: 100,000yen each(ten prizes from both categories)

read more and get the submission forms.
there is a category for posters that have not been published, like a free-style self promotion posters. The only condition is to mention IPT2009 in the credits. Well, if it doesn't bother you, please, mention DesignContest.net too. It will help the community if you win

Just wanted to post an update, I got the visa and bought the tickets to go to Japan. So I am ready to go. If you have any questions concerning the event, please, feel free to ask and I will transmit them to the Museum.

Wow, this sounds fantastic and really open thematically wise! I didn't know this contest even existed...I imagine the competition is fierce. Man, I won't be able to send something in time..
