I just updated my portfolio layout (again). I focused on making the site more representative of my personality - bright, fun, and organized. Let me know what you think! Thanks! :)

I'll be adding more portfolio content in the near future.

I think this is much better than the previous design, there's much more of your personality in there. I would recommend not using the concentric circles though, as this has been overdone to death... try something more original, maybe some of your own illustrations or something. Whatever fits. :)

I've just noticed after staring at the design for some time that the yellow actually hurts my eyes a little bit after a while. Maybe you could look into that as well. :)

Thanks! Actually, I realized the bright yellow was a little eye-straining after viewing it on my computer at work, so I do have a darker yellow version saved at http://jennasheffler.net/index2.html. I'm still playing around with finding the perfect shade, though.

The darker yellow looks better :) You could even try experimenting with colors such as magenta, cyan, yellow-green if you wish.

You should use another color scheme because yellow and black combine they are much associated with danger, hazard, caution ideas/situations.

Take for instance, warning signs... they should be black text on a yellow background and should always include a pictorial symbol. We learn that in school...

Unless you want to portray that message with your portfolio...

Thanks for all the feedback so far!

@Deathdart: I've taken your advice and played around with new colors. I'm having a hard time finding a shade of yellow that is the perfect balance between bright and blah, so I chose a shade of cyan for the final product. Initially, I really wanted to use yellow because after polling 10 of my closest family and friends, 7 of them associated me with the color yellow. I also own a lot of yellow/bright-colored things so it seemed like a good representation of my personality. Light blue was the third most popular color (after purple, which I don't particularly like), so I played around with cyan colors and decided to stick with it. Let me know what you think!

@igorad: ditto

@guetizo: I typically perceive yellow as a happy, sunny color, but thank you for pointing out its association with cautionary symbols. If you'd like, let me know what you think of the new background.

Thanks again, everyone!

Its better now...

But I recommend you don't limit yourself to only 2 colors... Check these websites for you to make it event better. They have nice color palettes with which you can play a bit.

and so on... you can google it for more..

@guetizo: Thanks for the color palette suggestions. I really like the color scheme designer, and I also found a couple other ones after doing more research.

Another good way to easily create color schemes is to use the 'Color Guide' in Adobe Illustrator (Shift+F3)... That way you can select any color and get any kind of color scheme related to it. Other than that, as guetizo said, Adobe Kuler is a very good resource.

Ok, I redesigned my website once more. I just wasn't in love with the last layout.

For the new layout, I kept the funky, fun look but made more of an effort to incorporate my own artwork as a self portrait. It's cheesy, but I like it.
