atondex the problem with some companies is that they know almost NOTHING about portfolios and which designer to choose. Talking from personal experience.

That is why I call myself, D.signer.
I don`t know enough about it yet, but
    I am willing to learn.

But I understand exacly what you mean.
It's a craft, takes years to learn and study.

I am taking the autodidact route, just because
I have no money, but I wouldn`t call myself a
    designer, if ever.

That is why I'm majoring in computer science. I hope to be a software engineer in the future to have a stable job (sadly, I enjoy programming and solving problems). Design will be a hobby and secondary job, unless I can get a good career out of that (I'm thinking longterm... kids, college, etc). I am 19 years old, and I often find myself confused as to what I want to do with my life. But the CS major plan has been pretty stable now.

I heard too many horror stories from fellow graphic artists about freelancing, and the ignorance of customers over choosing something clunky and ugly rather than a neat, aesthetically pleasing design.

But at the end of the day, it is up to the customers!
All you can do is persuade them.

honestly, his site doesnt look half bad. nothing special really, but not terrible. also, i would say that talking bad about people is never a good idea. it just makes you look bad. even if you are right, talking bad about people on a public forum will always make you look bad.

He have update his site recently, still he got no clue how to build a site. If you look better its a single picture each page. And he made area buttons. You see it when it load the picture if load one single big picture, I doubt this is made with dreamweaver. Probably frontpage plus photoshop.

No doubt about it. Actually this is the funiest website I've seen so far

    I mean: http://www.enjoydesign.nl/Portfolio-2.jpg
Bwahaha! And that's just for starters!

On the other hand, this is a perfect example of how you're not supposed to make websites.

Oh nowadays small websites can be build rather easily.
Xara started webdesigner 5 recently. so you can basically
build a website without any knowledge but graphic skills.
And some amateurs build some pretty nice webpages.

it's a pity but such people will always exist(
But it seems to me, if he has money and can talk good, it will be better for him to hire skilled designers and to earn money in such a way... hmmm

It's frustrating when things like this happen. It's one thing to be a confident designer and only show potential clients a few samples of your work, but it's uncalled for if you're a "designer" who is just trying to sweet-talk people into paying loads of cash for mediocre, (and possibly copyright-infringing) results.
